We are hoping to build a full size indoor school / arena to provide facilities for our local riding clubs. There is a very substantial equestrian population in this area most of whom keep horses on very low budgets and have little transport available. Although our two local riding clubs are among the largest unaffiliated and affiliated clubs in the UK surprisingly few facilities exist, particularly full size indoor ones, with the nearest available being over 60 miles away.

The new arena will provide safe, all year round indoor equestrian facilities which promote participation in horse sports and reduce the need for riding on public roads. There will be facilities for disabled riders & visitors and we hope to attract one of the disabled persons’ riding groups in the future.

The proposed indoor school and it’s ancillary facilities would also be available for other community uses and events (e.g. indoor fete, boot sale, dog shows, flower shows, school events etc) and other sports training.

The building will hopefully have excellent “green” credentials. We plan to use local contractors to keep the green miles low and environmentally friendly materials where practical. Solar panels will be installed on the roof and rainwater collected to reduce financial overheads.

Once established, it is hoped that the school will create local employment both for staff and contractors. It will also generate increased trade for other local shops and businesses.

The arena and facilities will also serve as the base for Laminitis Research (laminitis.org.uk).
